I3 November 2024: In Search of the real Lee Weng Thong, Cantonese Kapitan by Dr Lee Hing-Yan
Dr Lee Hing-Yan and his family have traced the steps of their paternal grandfather Lee Weng Thong. Dr Lee, in his talk, “In Search of the real Lee Weng Thong, Cantonese Kapitan” took us along the paths his grandfather tread from leaving China at the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1912) to arriving in Kuching and establishing his business.
Dr Lee Hing-Yan was born in Kuching and studied at St. Joseph’s School. He has over 30 years of working experience in the ICT industry. He is a co-author of the book From Nanhai to Nanyang: LEE WENG THONG of Sarawak, Kapitan China of the Cantonese Community (2023). He is active as past president, honorary chairman & trustee of the Kwong Wai Siew Li Si Shi Shut in Singapore 广惠肇李氏书室 and was IT director for Genealogy Society Singapore.
