How To Get Involved

Friends of Sarawak Museum (FoSM) is a membership-based NGO. We, as members, work together to organise and to participate in activities. The activities are driven by our personal interests (things we want to learn more about) and those of our co-members. 

Talks both for the public and as member-only activities have always featured in our activities. So members have arranged for speakers or shared their expertise on a range of topics. The diversity of the talk topics and the expertise of the speakers means that we also extend our knowledge of Sarawak.

21st July – Beccari, Borneo and Beyond: Beccari’s Life and Works by Michele Rodda, PhD
Odoardo Beccari, an influential Italian botanist, conducted extensive Malesian expeditions, collecting 16,000 specimens while publishing significantly on palms and iconic plant species, amidst conflicts with scientific institutions.

14th July – Animal Life of the Matang Massif: An Overview including Historical Observations by Beccari by Chien C Lee
The Matang Massif, centered on Gunung Serapi, is rich in biodiversity. Odoardo Beccari and biologist Chien Lee documented its unique flora and fauna over decades, highlighting its ecological significance.

Ann: Helping to organise the talks is amazing. The actual task of putting together has particular steps. The exciting and motivating part is the broadening of my knowledge and meeting other like-minded people.
